About Mr. Bingen

Mr. Bingen has been teaching band at Crocker/Riverside Elementary since 2009, but also works full time as the Head Audio Engineer for the UC Davis Music Department where he records, livestreams, and mixes sound for hundreds of events each year.

Stephen Bingen began playing trumpet in 5th grade, took up the French Horn in 9th grade and has been playing both ever since. Mr. Bingen studied Music Education and Horn Performance with Pete Nowlen and Steve Roach at Sacramento State University. While attending Sac State he received several scholarships as a member of the Liberace Scholarship Woodwind Quintet. From 2008 to 2012, Mr. Bingen was the Jazz Band Director for the Sacramento Youth Band and during that time he expanded the jazz program to include two jazz ensembles comprised over 30 young musicians. In 2011, 2012 and again in 2013, Stephen was a guest band director at the ARC Summer Jazz Workshop. 

As a freelance horn player, Mr. Bingen has performed as a guest horn soloist with the California High School All-State Honor Choir, the Sac State Combined Choirs, the CMEA Capitol Section Honor Choir, and most recently as a concerto soloist with Symphony D'Oro. Mr. Bingen is a member SacPrep's "Beatles Guitar Project", a 40-piece professional rock orchestra that performs complete Beatles albums live in concert. Mr. Bingen was previously the principal hornist with the Camellia Symphony Orchestra and has also performed with the Sacramento Philharmonic, Camerata California, VITA Academy Orchestra, UC Davis Symphony Orchestra, Sacramento State Orchestra, Folsom Symphony, and the Sierra Symphony. As a trumpet player, Mr. Bingen has performed with many local bands, including Sol Peligro, Luv Taxi, Top Shelf, Raigambre, and Los Gallos, receiving a total of 5 Sammie Awards. 

Mr. Bingen loves the outdoors and gardening. When he has time he loves to fish, hike, and makes it a point to go camping at least twice a year. Mr. Bingen also dabbles with R/C Airplanes on occasion.

Mr. Bingen's wife, Mrs. Bingen, is also a professional musician and music teacher and the two of them are enjoying raising their two daughters together, Olivia and Camille.
